The peak activity of the Perseids meteor shower is expected tonight. It is one of the most famous meteor showers.
The shower's radiant is located in the constellation Perseus. The meteor shower is caused by the Earth passing through a trail of dust particles produced by comet Swift–Tuttle. When the particles enter the atmosphere they burn up, leaving bright trails.
The shower can be seen from July 17 to August 24. But it is best observed from August 10 to 15, preferably on the night of August 12–13. At that time you can see at least 100 meteors per hour.
