First-graders at the math-and-physics lyceum will be taken to the old building for classes until the smell of paint in the new one dissipates.

Construction of the new physics and mathematics lyceum building on Stroiteli Avenue in Kirov has entered the home stretch, but it will not be able to accept students on September 1. According to the schedule, the developer was supposed to hand over the school on July 1, but missed the deadline. It is expected that the permit for putting the building into operation will be obtained within a month.

As Natalia Bastrikova, Minister of Education of the Kirov Region, explained, after the facility is commissioned it will need to undergo licensing, have its classrooms equipped, and obtain all necessary approvals from supervisory authorities. By the rules, there should not even be a faint smell of paint in the new building, so the opening date is being postponed — the move into the new premises is expected only by the start of the second term.

In the meantime, 900 students, including 53 first-graders, will start the school year in the lyceum’s old buildings. For the convenience of the little ones and their parents, two school buses will be put into service to transport them from the new building on Stroiteli Avenue to their places of study. The ministry assures that everyone is interested in completing the procedures as soon as possible and is preparing the building to receive children in the shortest possible time, the government of the Kirov Region reports.

For the first-graders of the physics and math lyceum, the bell will ring on September 1 not in the new building on Prospekt Stroiteley but in the old building — they will be taken there by school buses until the new classrooms no longer smell of paint and all inspections have been completed.
