In Kirov, doctors saved the vision of a 65-year-old woman with a retinal detachment.
At Kirovskaya Clinical Hospital No. 7, doctors preserved the vision of a 65-year-old patient diagnosed with retinal detachment. The woman experienced a sudden deterioration of vision while working in her garden and described it as a "curtain" appearing before her eyes. An ophthalmologist found that the detachment was dangerously close to the macula—the part of the retina responsible for sharp vision. Only half a millimeter remained to the critical zone. The doctor performed a complex laser surgery with pinpoint accuracy, avoiding vital areas. Thanks to this procedure, the retiree was able to retain her vision. Such operations have become possible due to new equipment. Since the beginning of the year, specialists have carried out about 600 laser interventions and helped nearly two thousand patients with diabetic retinopathy.
