In Kirov schools, the menu will be tested for selection.
In schools No. 9, No. 10, No. 53, and the A. Grin Gymnasium in Kirov, a menu with choice options is scheduled to be introduced starting in October — this format of school meals will be tested as part of a pilot project. This was reported by the city administration's press service.
In the first stage, the new system will only affect primary school students. Parents will be offered to complete a survey to determine children's preferences and select dishes for them two weeks in advance. For example, for lunch, students will be able to choose between beef steak with mashed potatoes or a chicken cutlet with pasta.
As noted by Denis Sitnikov, director of the food and social catering plant, all dishes will meet SanPin (Sanitary and Epidemiological Rules and Norms) requirements for quality and nutritional value. According to him, the goal of the innovation is not only to serve tasty food to students but also to reduce food waste.
A decision on implementing the choice menu in other city schools will be made after the pilot testing is complete.
Additionally, cosmetic repairs will be carried out in the cafeterias of these schools before the start of the academic year. Images of cartoon and fairy tale characters will appear on the walls, along with informational stands featuring Aunt Tasty — the symbol of the catering plant. Funding for the renovation is planned to come from extrabudgetary sources.
