In the Kirov region, a driver who hit and killed a teenager was convicted.

The Kirov Regional Court upheld the verdict in the criminal case against a 54-year-old resident of Luzsky District, who hit a teenager at a pedestrian crossing and fled the scene. The man was found guilty under paragraph "a," "b" of part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules resulting in the accidental death of a person, coupled with leaving the scene of the accident).

The accident occurred on June 21, 2024, in the village of Podosinovets near the cultural center building. The driver of an Audi A6, under the influence of alcohol and significantly exceeding the speed limit, collided with a 14-year-old crossing the road at a pedestrian crosswalk. The teenager died from his injuries. After the accident, the driver fled the scene.

Following the case review in the court of first instance, the defendant was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment with a 2-year deprivation of driving rights. The court also satisfied the claim of the deceased's relatives for 6.5 million rubles in moral damages. To ensure enforcement of the decision, the defendant’s property (car, equipment, communication devices, weapons, etc.) was seized.

Both parties appealed the verdict. In his appeal, the defendant called the punishment excessively harsh, while the prosecution pointed out the unlawfulness of considering his apologies as a mitigating circumstance. The regional court found the prosecutor’s arguments justified and removed the mentioned circumstance from the verdict, but left the sentence duration unchanged. The defendant’s appeal was denied.

The man was sent to serve his sentence in a general regime correctional colony.
