In Kirov, preparations are underway for installing the sheet pile on the Trans-Siberian tunnel construction.

Construction of the tunnel beneath the Trans-Siberian Railway continues in the Novovyatsky district of Kirov. The site has already received sheet piles of various lengths—from 8 to 20 meters—totaling over 2,000 tons, as well as a vibratory pile driver. A drilling rig will arrive soon, after which one of the key stages—driving the sheet piles, which will serve as the structural frame of the underground facility—will begin.

On July 10, a field meeting was held to discuss the progress of construction, led by Aleksei Zherdev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Kirov Region government. The meeting was attended by Aleksei Petryakov, the regional Transport Minister; Vyacheslav Simakov, the head of Kirov’s administration; and representatives of the contracting organization.

“Building an underground tunnel is a complex process that requires reliable technologies to reinforce the excavation and protect the soil. The sheet pile retaining wall provides structural stability and ensures safety during the work. Currently, almost everything is ready for the sheet pile driving at the site,” said Aleksei Zherdev.

Work on relocating utility networks is also ongoing at the site. Some of these utilities are being installed via driving methods, which eliminate the need for excavation. The relocation of communications is planned to be completed by September. According to Vyacheslav Simakov, the head of Kirov’s administration, weekly monitoring of the construction process is being conducted. In the near future, the contractor will switch to two-shift work.

The project is part of the national “Infrastructure for Life” initiative. The tunnel construction is planned to be completed by 2027.
