On the eve of the 116th anniversary of the cynological service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which will be celebrated on June 21, a press conference was held in Kirov. The event was held at the Center of the Cynological Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at 11 a.m. The program included a speech by the head of the Center, Andrei Sadakov, and demonstration performances by dog handlers with service dogs.

Police Colonel Andrei Sadakov recalled that on June 21, 1909, the first police dog school was founded in St. Petersburg, the date that marked the beginning of the cynological service in the Interior Ministry system. "For 116 years in a row, dog handlers have been helping to solve crimes and ensure public safety. We are still fulfilling all the tasks dictated by the operational situation," he said.

There are now more than a hundred dogs on the territory of the center, most of them are German Shepherds, the most versatile service breed. There are also Belgian Malinois Shepherds, Labradors and Rottweilers. Dogs participate in the search for drugs, weapons, explosives, missing persons, work as part of investigative teams and patrol crews.

Demonstrations of working with young pets were also held at the center's site. One of them is the German Shepherd Aron, who turned one the day before. Anastasia Zaitseva, a dog handler, said that she took the puppy from three months old: "He loves me, he's used to me. We train every day. He already knows how to "sit", "lie", "nearby", and learns how to find explosives. The main goal is the unquestioning execution of commands and the clear identification of target substances."An experienced dog handler, Nikolai Karavaev, demonstrated the skills of a dog named Emperor Bagrat. The Belgian Shepherd has been on missions searching for explosives, weapons and ammunition for three years. "We work daily to keep in touch. This is the key to successful and accurate execution of commands. Recently, for example, two grenades were found — it worked perfectly," he said.

Colonel Sadakov also stressed that despite the development of technologies such as quadrocopters with thermal imagers, the dog remains indispensable: "The quadcopter will show where the person is, and the dog — in which direction he went. An integrated approach is important. Then we achieve the desired result."Later, we were able to see the dog handler and his companion in action. A small production called "Robbery" was made for the correspondents. The idea is this: the girl, staring at the phone, lost her vigilance. This was taken advantage of by a young man who decided to steal her bag. After a small skirmish, the girl was left with the robber's cap in her hands. After her call to the dog training service, a car arrived with a specialist and a dog. The latter picked up the trail and, despite the fact that the trail remained on different surfaces (asphalt, grass and mud), successfully found and detained the criminal.
