Nicotine in vapes is more dangerous than in tobacco: narcologist — about the risks for future parents

The chief narcologist of the Kirov region, Elena Tominina, warns residents of the region against misconceptions about the safety of vapes. According to her, nicotine in electronic cigarettes is no less harmful than in tobacco, and in some cases even more toxic. At the same time, the concentration of the substance in the vaping liquid is not regulated by law in any way. Even nicotine-free mixtures contain dangerous chemical compounds that affect health.

Vapes are particularly dangerous for men and women who are planning a baby. The doctor emphasizes that smoking by one of the parents, even when it comes to vaping, can make conception more difficult, lead to pregnancy complications and affect fetal development. In women, e-cigarettes disrupt hormonal balance, reduce reproductive functions and increase the risk of miscarriage. Men's sperm quality deteriorates and erectile dysfunction may develop.

The narcologist explains that the substances contained in vapes cause vasoconstriction, including in the placenta, which impairs the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the fetus. This can cause developmental delays, premature birth, and other serious consequences for the child. The risk of sudden infant death also increases.

The specialist concluded that in order to preserve the health of future parents and children, it is necessary to completely abandon all forms of smoking. This includes e—cigarettes.
