A patient with a complicated hip fracture was helped in Kirov

Doctors at the Kirov Center for Traumatology, Orthopedics and Neurosurgery successfully treated a 68-year-old local resident who was admitted with one of the most difficult types of fractures. The woman went to the clinic in March after falling on her leg, to the place where she had a hip arthroplasty 13 years ago. Doctors diagnosed a closed periprosthetic fracture of the left femur with dislocated fragments.

For the treatment of the Kirov woman, a unique Russian technique was used, mastered by the specialists of the center. The operation was performed by doctor Roman Yemelyanov. With the help of special equipment, an individually made pin was inserted into the bone marrow canal of the patient's thigh, which was fixed in the leg of the existing endoprosthesis. The intervention is minimally invasive, as it is performed through an incision up to three centimeters in size.

The operation was successful, and the supporting function of the limb was restored. The very next day, the patient was able to move with the support of the operated leg. Her condition is currently assessed as satisfactory, and preparations are underway for her discharge from the hospital.
