Kirov taxi drivers opposed the ban on foreign cars

      Carriers in the Kirov region opposed a bill that would oblige taxis to use only Russian cars. We are talking about the so-called taxi localization law, which is currently being considered in the State Duma. According to the carriers, this will lead to higher prices, lower taxi availability and higher maintenance costs.

      Currently, domestic cars are already widely used in the taxi industry, but the new system of "localization points" actually forces us to choose cars from the same manufacturer. Business fears a monopoly, rising car prices and a shortage of spare parts.

      Representatives of taxi companies note that Russian cars require frequent repairs, and their maintenance is more expensive. At the same time, carriers do not have the financial capacity to massively upgrade their fleet: in two years, the number of old cars in taxis has increased from 12% to 22.4%.

      Carriers believe that the ban on foreign cars will only complicate the work of the industry. Instead, they propose to support the demand for Russian cars through subsidies and benefits. They called on the authorities to openly discuss the issue.
