The judo tournament in memory of Sergey Ozhegov was held in Kirovo-Chepetsk
For the first nine years, the tournament was held during Sergey Ozhegov's lifetime, being a bright event in the sports life of the city and the region. His participation, his support for young athletes, his sincere love for judo — all this created a unique atmosphere of competition. The tragic death of Sergei Anatolyevich on December 2, 2013 was a heavy blow to everyone who knew him. In memory of Ozhegov, the Leader sports club from Kirovo-Chepetsk decided to give the competition his name, thereby paying tribute to the athlete and a true patriot of Russia.
The anniversary tournament brought together more than 220 athletes from the republics of Mari El, Komi, Udmurtia, the cities of Kirov (SSHOR Yunost, Vyatshor, SK Master), Slobodskoy, Vyatskiye Polyany, Kotelnich, Sovetsk, Urzhum, Vostochny settlement, Prosnitsa and, of course, Kirovo-Chepetsk.
The participants were greeted by Oleg Valenchuk, State Duma Deputy and President of the Kirov Region Judo Federation.
— This tournament is not only of great sporting importance. Using the example of our fellow countryman, Hero of Russia Sergey Ozhegov, the children will learn what courage, patriotism and loyalty to duty are. Every appearance on the tatami is a symbol of strength and perseverance, it is a continuation of the work of those who gave their lives for the peaceful future of our Motherland," Oleg Valenchuk said.
The competition was held in a tense struggle and an exciting atmosphere. Strong competition and a high level of training of the participants ensured the entertainment and dynamism of the fights. For athletes from other regions, the tournament was a great opportunity to test their skills and demonstrate their potential. And for the judoists of the Kirov region, this tournament is an important stage in the Regional Cup, a kind of final competition that determines the best athletes in the region.
The hosts of the tournament, judoists from Kirovo-Chepetsk, showed excellent results. Gold in their weight categories was won by:
