"Alive, well, going to the sauna": rumors about Igor Strelkov's suicide were denied

The news about Igor Strelkov's (Girkin) alleged suicide in a penal colony, where he is serving a sentence for incitement to extremism, has spread through social networks and the media. However, this information turned out to be untrue.

The key source of the disinformation was journalist Alexander Nevzorov (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation), who, after leaving Russia, published a "suicide note" and claimed confirmation of information from sources in the FSIN.

However, as reported by Gazeta.ru Igor Strelkov's lawyer, Alexander Molokhov, strongly denied the reports, providing a comment based on a personal visit to the colony.: "At one o'clock in the afternoon, I was in the colony, I met with him. He was alive and well, although, as always, he was unhappy with something, but this is normal. At two o'clock in the afternoon I was at the head of the colony… Girkin was going to the sauna and was not going to commit suicide. I advise you to listen less to Mr. Nevzorov."

Igor Strelkov's wife, Miroslava Reginskaya, also commented on the situation, calling the information about suicide "fake and fake": "This is not true. The information is fake. My husband is fine. We just recently got on the phone with him. He had lawyers in the colony today."

The official position was also presented by the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Kirov region, providing a concise but categorical comment.: "The information disseminated on the Internet about the death of Igor Girkin in the correctional facility of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Kirov region is fake."

Igor Strelkov (Girkin) was detained in 2023 and sentenced to four years in prison in January 2024.
