In July 2026, at least 152 Russian banks reported a reduction in funds of individuals in term deposits. According to RBC, in June this situation arose for 138 banks, and in May for 134. Before this, such a large number of banks experiencing this scenario was only observed in November 2025 (154) and in June 2024 (197).
At the same time, experts note that there is no outflow of citizens' savings from the banking system. Thus, in July, the balances of funds in accounts and deposits of the population increased by 0.3%, or 234 billion rubles. However, the savings strategy of Russians is changing. In August, the share of citizens who named cash as the best form of savings reached 37% — the highest since the fall of 2022. Meanwhile, the number of those who prefer bank accounts has fallen back to the minimum of December 2022 — 36%.
