Every day is a holiday: Sokolov has launched a new initiative.

Today, August 21, Alexander Valentinovich published a post on his Telegram channel about the "expanded meeting of the Council for the Development of Industry under the Governor of Kirov Region." And it didn't go without one of the most beloved Sokolov initiatives — the establishment of a holiday: "he proposed (at the meeting — ed. note) to establish August 21 as a state holiday — the Day of Industry of Kirov Region. He instructed the Prime Minister to formalize the decision in the form of a legislative initiative of the Governor of Kirov Region."

You may ask: "Why?" But our governor answered this as well. It turns out that "this professional holiday is intended to popularize working and engineering professions among the younger generation." After all, stability in the economic sector, decent working and living conditions, prospects, and opportunities for development are not our ways of "popularizing professions among the younger generation," but probably holidays! And from the meetings of the Councils, one must leave with proposals for new commemorative dates.

      A year rich in holidays

After this initiative, it became interesting how many times over the years our region's holiday set has been "enriched"? So, just for the year 2026, Kirov Region can boast three new occasions for celebrations: May 19 — Day of Children's Public Associations, August 21 — Day of Industry of Kirov Region, and in July, at a meeting of the youth council, there was a proposal (though not from the governor) to "make the birth of a child a holiday right in the maternity hospital, to create conditions for acquaintance and joint activities, for example, through team sports" — it's scary to imagine what kinds of sports were being discussed in the maternity hospital. Even scarier is what reaction such an initiative and team sports will evoke from women who became mothers just a few days ago.

Well, you might say, a person just loves to congratulate everyone, what's the big deal? And we are not against it. We even compiled a small selection of favorite congratulations from Alexander Valentinovich.

For example, May 24 — Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. Or perhaps the most beloved — Fisherman's Day. Two holidays — better than one!

But the main thing that cannot be forgotten is that thanks to Alexander Valentinovich, our region has finally started to properly celebrate the City Day of Kirov. We used to celebrate it together with Russia Day, but it turns out that we should all celebrate in September. But our governor fixed everything and opened our eyes. So thank him for this — now we have not one holiday, but two, and we can celebrate for two whole days!

And we, in turn, also propose a few holidays for consideration:

Day of Repaired Roads of Kirov Region. Date: not critical

Day Without Corruption in Kirov Region. Date: June 8. The date is chosen to coincide with the detention of the CEO of "Vyatavtodor," Oleg Semakov, on suspicion of receiving a bribe of 50 million rubles.

Day of Kirov's Gates of the Russian North. Date: not critical.
