Mandatory labeling of meat products is being introduced in Russia.
Starting from August 1, new labeling rules for meat products came into force in Russia, reports "Kommersant." Now, producers and importers are required to apply special digital codes to ready-made meat and meat-plant products sold in consumer packaging.
At the first stage, the changes will not affect sausage products. Mandatory labeling for them will come into effect on October 1, 2026.
At the same time, new requirements have come into force for peasant farms and agricultural cooperatives. They are now also required to transmit information about the introduction of products into circulation through the state system "Honest Sign."
According to the system operator — the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT), more than 1,400 meat product manufacturers and over 300 importing companies have already connected to the new rules.
Support measures are provided for small and medium-sized businesses. Enterprises that start working with the labeling system in August and October will be able to receive compensation of up to 50% of the costs for purchasing the necessary equipment.
It is expected that mandatory labeling will help increase market transparency, reduce the circulation of illegal products, and simplify control over their origin.
