The authorities have abandoned the idea of charging for foreign traffic.
In Russia, there are no plans to introduce an additional fee for foreign internet traffic. This was stated by the State Secretary - Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Ivan Lebedev, during a plenary session of the State Duma, as reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the ministry representative, the issue of a separate tariff for international internet traffic is not currently being considered.
The topic was actively discussed following media publications. In the spring, Forbes, citing sources, reported that authorities were allegedly considering the possibility of introducing a fee for the use of VPN services if the volume of international traffic in mobile networks exceeds 15 GB per month.
Later, the newspaper "Vedomosti" reported that Russian telecom operators had appealed to the Ministry of Digital Development with a request to postpone the possible introduction of such a measure.
However, the ministry has now officially stated that there are no plans to introduce a separate fee for foreign internet traffic.
