The Ministry of Education has excluded homework from the curriculum for first-grade classes.
Starting from September 1, 2026, new requirements for organizing the educational process for first-grade students will come into effect. The Ministry of Education's order excludes homework from the curriculum, solidifying this provision at the regulatory level, reports the newspaper "Kommersant."
Until now, methodological recommendations allowed for the gradual introduction of homework for first graders, limited to one hour per day. This point has been completely abolished by the new document. The regulatory framework has excluded the provision regarding the permissible volume of extracurricular workload for children entering the first grade.
According to the publication, the changes are aimed at reducing the burden during the adaptation period. Now, the entire educational program for first graders will be implemented exclusively within the framework of school classes, without the need to do anything after lessons.
The decision to ban homework has become part of the updated approach to primary education. The main reasons cited include creating more comfortable conditions for children's adaptation to school and reducing the burden on families during the first year of schooling.
