Meteorologists warned Kirov residents about the risk of tornadoes on July 5.
Kirov weather enthusiasts, based on data from the GFS model (American Global Forecast System), warn of a sharp deterioration in weather expected in the region in the middle of the first summer weekend. According to published maps of forecast parameters, the areas of maximum risk include the western, northwestern, and southwestern districts of the Kirov region. Neighbors of the Kirov residents — the inhabitants of the eastern Kostroma and Vologda regions, as well as the northern part of the Nizhny Novgorod region — should also prepare for encounters with the elements.
Experts draw attention to the Significant Tornado Parameter (STP), which is used to assess the likelihood of tornadoes occurring during supercell thunderstorms. In the forecast period (the second half of July 5), the modeling indicates the formation of a narrow area of increased convective activity on the border of the Vologda and Kostroma regions. In this location, the STP index reaches threshold values indicating a potential for funnel cloud formation.
Notably, despite the activity in neighboring territories, the maps themselves (with a lead time of 49-50 hours) currently show tornado risk indices directly over the Kirov region as low. However, this does not negate the threat of gusty winds and large hail, which can affect the western areas even in the absence of tornadoes.
The specialists from the "Amateur Meteorology in Kirov" community emphasize that these data are currently preliminary. Global models for such a long term (more than two days) often "overestimate" or make errors in the local attachment of weather phenomena.
Nevertheless, the overall trend for thunderstorm activity on Sunday is clearly evident. Residents of the western and southwestern districts of the region, as well as anyone planning outdoor activities or intercity trips towards Kostroma and Vologda, are strongly advised to monitor updates on forecasts on Saturday. By the evening of July 4, the models will become more accurate, and it will become clear whether the thunderstorm front will escalate into a serious weather disaster. For now, meteorologists advise being prepared for any whims of the atmosphere.

Meteorologists warned Kirov residents about the risk of tornadoes on July 5.
The upcoming Sunday, July 5, could become one of the most dangerous weather days for the western outskirts of the Kirov region and several neighboring areas. According to calculations from global meteorological models, conditions are developing in this zone for the formation of powerful thunderstorm cells capable of producing squalls, large hail, and even tornadoes. Amateur meteorologists are urging residents not to let their guard down.
