Rospotrebnadzor: ticks are active, but not very much
"The incidence of bites among the population has decreased by 7.5% compared to last week, while the Administration reminds that the highest activity of ticks is recorded in May-June," the agency's website reports. At the same time, the Administration has not yet announced any approximate figures for the number of Kirov residents bitten by ticks since the beginning of the current "tick" season. It should be noted that in the past "tick" season of 2025, statistics on the number of bites were published by the agency weekly.
We remind you that the editorial office of Newsler.ru has repeatedly tried to obtain statistics on tick bites in 2026. However, in response to all our official inquiries, the agency provided "standard replies": "does not exceed the multi-year average" and "is 2.5 times lower" than last year. According to the agency, information on laboratory-confirmed cases of tick-borne viral encephalitis "has not been received at this time." No specific figures were provided.
Meanwhile, according to data for 2025, the number of residents in the Kirov region affected by tick bites has sharply increased. In 2025, more than 30,000 people sought medical help — 45.8% more than the previous year, and the season of bloodsucker activity stretched for almost eight months. It should be noted that this report is prepared annually by the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor in collaboration with the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology. It collects data on the sanitary situation in the region, the state of the environment, the spread of diseases, and other indicators related to public health. The regional Administration is not entitled to "suppress" these figures, even if there might be a potential "ban" on current operational data.
