Russia fell silent for a moment.

Russia fell silent for a moment.

"Minute of Silence" is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War. At 12:15 PM, a nationwide event began in the country to honor the memory of those who fell victim to the bloodiest war. The minute of silence, as a remembrance of the victims of that terrible war, was first held in the USSR in 1965. On June 8, 1996, in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War, the President of Russia established the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow – June 22. On this day, state flags are lowered, mourning events are held, and flowers are laid at monuments dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

The minute of silence is a symbol of collective, eternal memory and sorrow for every fallen soldier on the front lines and in the rear, for all the victims of the war. It serves as a reminder to the whole world of the courage, resilience, and unyielding spirit of the Soviet people, who did not succumb to Nazism, endured, and carried those terrible years on their shoulders, gifting the world the Great Victory.
