In Novovyatsk, birds are dying due to pollution of the Chumovitsy with petroleum products.
In Novovyatsk, pollution of the small river Chumovitsa has persisted for two months. According to local residents, the water near school No. 62 has turned black, with rainbow streaks appearing on its surface, and a sharp smell of fuel oil emanates from the water body. Exhausted birds sit motionless on the riverbank. Their feathers are coated with a dark, viscous liquid, preventing them from flying. Kirov resident Elena took two pigeons home. It took her over an hour to wash off the fuel oil with dish soap. After that, she spent several days giving the birds enterosorbent. As noted in the report, a similar approach was used by volunteers in Anapa. Several birds found on the shore too late could not be saved. It is also reported that ducks with ducklings are arriving at the river.
The regional branch of the All-Russian People's Front received a complaint from residents. Representatives of the presidential movement sent a request to the Ministry of Natural Resources. During the inspection, specialists found that the concentration of petroleum products in the river exceeded the maximum allowable concentration by more than three times. A warning was issued to the local enterprise about the inadmissibility of violating legislation.
The ONF considers the warning an insufficient measure. Public activists sent a complaint to the environmental prosecutor's office. Earlier, we reported that the problem of river pollution with petroleum products in Kirov is not new. In July 2025, residents of the Chistye Prudy microdistrict appealed to the ONF due to the discharge of untreated wastewater into the Mostovitsa River through two pipes near the pedestrian bridge. At that time, water samples confirmed the presence of petroleum products, and the Ministry of Natural Resources demanded that the Kirov administration take the pipes into account. In September 2025, Alexander Bastrykin, the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, instructed to report on the results of the inspection regarding the pollution of the Mostovitsa. In May 2026, after a criminal case was initiated, Bastrykin again requested a report on the investigation and efforts to restore residents' rights to a favorable environment. A hedgehog with a large rotting wound ended up in the "Big Nest." Kirov residents were told how to safely relax with a dog. Two elderly cats in Kirov were left without an owner and are looking for a new home.
