Pamfilova urged not to complain about internet outages during the elections.
The Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova, urged Russians to calmly accept possible restrictions on the internet and communication during the election period. According to the newspaper "Kommersant," such measures may be introduced for security purposes.
Pamfilova stated that temporary disruptions in internet service are a matter of choice between comfort and security. She emphasized that the priority remains the protection of people's lives and health.
The head of the CEC also announced that the election commissions have already adapted to work under restrictions. Additional Wi-Fi points are planned to be installed at polling stations for remote electronic voting.
The elections for the State Duma of the ninth convocation will take place from September 18 to 20, 2026. Against the backdrop of threats from drone attacks in several regions, restrictions on mobile internet are already being introduced, causing residents to complain about disruptions in access even to some permitted services.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin instructed the government and the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation to ensure the uninterrupted operation of key digital services even under communication restrictions.
