Talented Kirov basketball players are not needed in their home region?

      According to the author of the letter, the situation in the region is critical, threatening the preservation of a talented generation of young basketball players born in 2010. The students of sports school No. 1 in Kirov regularly prove their high class at the national level. The team has participated in the final part of the Russian championship twice, achieving high 8th and 10th places.

      The next step for career growth should be participation in the Children's and Youth Basketball League (DYUBL), for which it is necessary to form a team and provide funding.

      This will help solve a number of important tasks:

      Building a sports vertical: children's school/youth team DYUBL/student sports/professional club.

      It will be possible to retain gifted young people in their home region, linking their future to the development of the Kirov region.

      Improving the region's image: the area will regain its status as a strong basketball center.

      To launch the project, support from the authorities is needed in allocating a budget subsidy or attracting a title sponsor from among large businesses. Funding is required solely to ensure the basic competitive cycle of the team: payment of fees, organization of training camps, equipment, and organization of trips for championship tours (transportation, accommodation, and meals for players and coaches).

      This is where the problem arose. As the author of the letter writes, the regional sports ministry responded with a refusal to the proposal to create a DYUBL team.

      This could lead to negative consequences: talented youth will start leaving for other regions, and very young basketball players will lose motivation to engage in the sport.

      "Bureaucrats probably feel more comfortable living in a mode of paper reports than taking responsibility for creating a federal-level team right now," the author expresses their emotions and is preparing an appeal to the governor of the region asking for intervention in the situation.
