On Friday, June 12, a prayer service dedicated to the birthday of the holy and righteous prince will take place in Kirov at Alexander Nevsky Square. The event will begin at 10:00.
As reported by the government of the Kirov region, the service will be held at the monument to the prince, which was solemnly opened and consecrated on September 21, 2024. The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the region, Alexander Sokolov, the presidential envoy to the Volga Federal District, Igor Komarov, the managing director of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Gregory, and the Vyatka and Sloboda Metropolitan Mark. At that time, the governor called Alexander Nevsky a key figure in domestic history, and the envoy referred to him as a symbol of the connection between generations of defenders.
However, the history of the monument turned out to be not so smooth. In October 2024, Kirov residents discovered a peculiarity on the memorial plaque: in the word "благоверный" (righteous), the letter "И" was used at the end instead of "Й" — "благоверныи". A teacher from one of the universities noted that until a certain time, there was no letter "Й" in the Russian alphabet, but within one text, uniformity should be maintained. A few days later, the diacritical mark — "kратка" on the letter "И" — was restored.
By spring 2025, new problems were discovered at the monument. Correspondents from Newsler.ru reported that a deep crack and unknown stains appeared on the pedestal, and the bronze on the prince's cloak began to oxidize and turn green — presumably due to accumulating water.
Nevertheless, tomorrow morning, believers and officials will gather again at the foot of the monument. The program includes a prayer service in honor of the birthday of the holy and righteous prince Alexander Nevsky.
