Pilgrims on the Cross Procession will be accompanied by swamp buggies and paramedics.
The Ministry of Health of the Kirov Region has revealed details about the medical support for one of the largest religious processions in Russia. As the chief freelance specialist in disaster medicine, Anton Samylov, explained, assistance for pilgrims will be available throughout the entire route.
The main technical feature this year is the operation of special vehicles in areas where regular ambulances cannot go. For off-road conditions, ATVs, swamp buggies, and all-terrain vehicles have been prepared. Two ambulance teams will be on duty daily at the beginning and end of the column, and in difficult sections, they will be supported by the nearest ambulance stations.
Inside the column itself, first aid will be provided by medical rescue teams. Medical and nursing teams from Kirov hospitals will be on duty at temporary stops. At night stops in Bobino, Zagarye, Monastyrskoye, Velikoretskoe, and Murygino, pilgrims will be greeted by staff from the Yuryan District Hospital. Assistance will also be available at general practice clinics and paramedic-midwifery points.
A special scheme has been deployed in the village of Velikoretskoe. From June 5 to 7, a paramedic-midwifery point and two tent medical camps will operate around the clock — one near the church and one on the banks of the Velikaya River. Ambulance support will not cease for even an hour. On June 6, during the main festive events, three teams, including a resuscitation team, will be on duty.
A mobile pharmacy has also been organized for pilgrims. Medications, bandaging materials, and sanitary-hygienic supplies will be available for purchase in the same populated areas with night stops. Additionally, the medical organizations involved in the support have formed reserves of medicines and medical products in case urgent assistance is needed under any conditions.
