Spring 2026 in Kirov: two temperature records in three days
Spring 2026 in the Kirov region, according to the Kirov Central Geophysical Observatory, is indeed breaking records. Only in March and May, meteorologists recorded several climatic contrasts.
The first decade of March turned out to be abnormally cold — at that time, the minimum air temperature was recorded. However, in the second and third decades, the situation changed dramatically: a Central Asian anticyclone moved into the region. As a result, the average daily air temperature in the region was 7–9 degrees higher than the climatic norm.
May also did not go without anomalies. From May 15, a Siberian anticyclone arrived in the region, bringing abnormally hot weather. For a week, the average daily air temperatures remained 7–11 degrees above normal.
Two days in Kirov were particularly indicative.
On May 17, 2026, the absolute maximum air temperature was recorded in the city: it reached +30.7℃. The previous record belonged to 1955, when thermometers showed +29.2℃.
Just two days later, on May 19, 2026, another absolute maximum was recorded in Kirov — +30.9℃. Before that, the hottest day was considered to be 28.4℃, recorded in 1977.
However, the anomalous warmth will not last long. According to the press service of the Kirov Central Geophysical Observatory, on May 24, a cyclone with atmospheric fronts will replace the anticyclone in the region. It will become significantly cooler, and the air temperature will approach the climatic norm.
