A resident of Kirov will go to prison for promising a "bribe" to tax officials.
In the Kirov region, an appellate decision has come into force regarding the criminal case of a 34-year-old local resident, found guilty under part 3 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). Initially, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Kirov sentenced him to a fine of 400,000 rubles.
As established by the court, from July 2022 to June 2023, the defendant, acting with the intent of illegal enrichment, informed the victim about the possibility of transferring a bribe of 1 million rubles to tax service employees on her behalf. The reason was a question about an accrued tax debt. In reality, the man did not intend to fulfill the promised action. He appropriated a portion of the funds received, 250,000 rubles, for his own benefit, causing significant damage to the victim.
The defendant did not admit guilt in the incriminated act.
The state prosecution disagreed with the district court's decision, considering the imposed sentence excessively lenient, and appealed the verdict in an appellate manner. The Kirov Regional Court reviewed the arguments of the appeal and changed the verdict.
By the new decision, the convicted man was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony, as well as an additional fine of 40,000 rubles. After the announcement of the appellate verdict, the man was taken into custody in the courtroom.
