Summer in the Kirov region may be colder than usual.

The authors of the Telegram channel "Amateur Meteorology in Kirov" shared a forecast for the upcoming summer, based on data about the correlation of air temperature (July-August) with the SOI index, which is related to the El Niño phenomenon. The map shows that the Kirov region is in an area of strong positive correlation (0.6-0.8) — this is one of the maxima on the map. This means that the summer weather here significantly depends on global processes in the Pacific Ocean. The channel's message states: "We do not expect a hot summer this year. Most likely, the season will be around the climatic norm or even colder than it." It is noted that a phase of El Niño has begun in the Pacific Ocean, which correlates with temperatures over the European territory of Russia, especially over the Volga region. During such a phase, July and August are likely to be cold or, at best, around normal. All hope now rests on June and May, which is likely to be warm.
