A pensioner from Kirov was promised a million, but 420 thousand were taken away.
As the Ministry of Internal Affairs found out, the day before, an unknown man called the pensioner. The man introduced himself as an employee of a capital auditing company that allegedly helps people with legal issues for free. The caller shared good news: the firm is involved in compensating those who previously purchased counterfeit medicines.
The woman had indeed ordered medications through an online store last year, so his words did not seem strange to her. The interlocutor confidently stated that the compensation amount could reach 1 million rubles — it all depends on the purchase amount and possible harm to health. To be convincing, he added that more than 4 million rubles had allegedly been allocated for all victims in the Kirov region.
However, receiving the promised money turned out to be not so simple. The fraudster explained that first, it was necessary to pay the "income tax" on the compensation. For this, a certain amount needed to be transferred to the details he provided.
Believing the stranger, the pensioner transferred 420,000 rubles from her account. After that, the "specialist from Moscow" stopped contacting her. Only then did the Kirov resident realize that she had been deceived and sought help from the police.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated regarding the fraud. Law enforcement is conducting the necessary investigative actions.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns: be vigilant when talking on the phone with strangers, especially when it comes to money. Do not believe promises of easy compensations and refunds. Before transferring funds, be sure to consult with relatives or friends. It is better to double-check the information than to lose your savings.
