May Holidays 2026: Where Russians Are Going and How Much Tours Cost

      According to specialists, the overall demand for the May holidays has remained at last year's level. However, the share of family trips with children has slightly decreased: this year it accounts for 34.5% of all bookings, while a year earlier it was almost 43%, reports the portal 56orb.ru.

      The top ten most popular foreign destinations for the May holidays in 2026 looks like this:

      Turkey — 43%

      Egypt — 17.2%

      Russia — 9.4% (domestic tourism)

      Abkhazia — 6.6%

      Vietnam — 6%

      China — 5.3%

      Thailand — 5.2%

      Maldives — 2.2%

      Tunisia — 0.9%

      Cuba — 0.6%

      For comparison: last year the structure was different. Turkey then accounted for 36.2%, Egypt — 16.6%, Russia — 15.9%, UAE — 9.9%, Thailand — 5%, Abkhazia — 2.6%, China — 2.5%, Vietnam — 1.8%, Tunisia — 1.7%, Maldives — 1.4%.

      Where demand has sharply increased

      Some destinations showed multiple growth compared to May 2025. Vietnam has become three times more popular, Abkhazia more than twice, and China exactly twice.

      This indicates a reorientation of tourists towards new and relatively inexpensive foreign routes.

      What about prices: where they have decreased and where they have increased

      The average cost of a tour has also changed. Experts provide the following figures (in rubles, per trip):

      Turkey — 162,400 ₽ (down 4.6% from last year)

      Egypt — 208,550 ₽ (down 2.5%)

      Russia — 85,450 ₽ (down 4.4%)

      Vietnam — 195,700 ₽ (up 21.3%)

      China — 178,750 ₽ (up 14.6%)

      Thailand — 139,400 ₽ (down 13.7%)

      Thus, vacations in Turkey, Egypt, and domestically have become slightly more affordable, while trips to Vietnam and China have noticeably increased in price against the backdrop of high demand.

      Where to go in Russia: top domestic destinations

      Domestic tourism also maintains high positions. According to experts, the distribution of bookings for Russian destinations from May 1 to May 9, 2026, looks like this:

      Krasnodar Krai — 31.9% (the leader by a large margin)

      Saint Petersburg — 13%

      Kaliningrad Region — 11.7%

      Caucasian Mineral Waters — 10.4%

      Moscow Region — 10.4%

      Moscow — 8.6%

      For comparison: last year Krasnodar Krai accounted for 23.5%, Saint Petersburg — 16.5%, Kaliningrad and Moscow Regions — 12.2% each, Caucasian Mineral Waters — 11%, Moscow and Tatarstan — 7.6% each. It is evident that the south of Russia has strengthened its positions, while the share of capital destinations has slightly decreased.

      The May holidays of 2026 promise to be eventful for the tourism industry. Russians are increasingly choosing Vietnam, China, and Abkhazia, while Krasnodar Krai remains the undisputed leader domestically. Prices for popular foreign resorts have generally stabilized, and in some cases even decreased. Family demand has slightly declined, but the overall volume of trips remains at last year's level.
