Kirov residents have lost 328 million rubles since the beginning of the year.
The Kirov region prosecutor's office is sounding the alarm: digital fraud continues to gain momentum, and criminals are increasingly implementing high technologies. According to the latest data, since the beginning of 2026, 1,201 residents of the region have already fallen victim to remote scammers. In just the last seven days, this list has been added to by 60 people.
The amounts of stolen funds are also growing like a snowball. The total financial "piggy bank" of the criminals has reached 328.8 million rubles over the year. Moreover, the dynamics are alarming: just in the past week, residents of Kirov handed over 45.7 million rubles to scammers.
Particular concern is raised by the arsenal of tricks used by criminals. In addition to classic schemes involving "safe accounts" and calls from fake FSB, prosecutor's office, and "Gosuslugi" portal employees, criminals have mastered methods of psychological pressure through artificial intelligence. Using speech synthesis technologies, they can impersonate the voices of real people. For example, they can call your relatives in your name and, using someone else's voice, ask for a large sum to "resolve a problem."
Additionally, they also use "legends" from mobile operators. The victim receives a call supposedly from a communication salon and, under the pretext of extending a service contract or changing a tariff, they extract personal and passport data, SMS codes, and other confidential information.
However, the supervisory authority is not standing idly by. The Kirov region prosecutor's office is actively suing so-called droppers — front people through whose accounts stolen money passes. This year, 482 lawsuits have already been filed against them for recovery of funds. This is 23 more than the previous week. Plus, 24 lawsuits have been submitted to the courts demanding the recognition of credit agreements as invalid — their victims entered into them under the influence of deception.
Law enforcement officials once again urge their fellow citizens to be vigilant: do not trust calls from strangers, even if the caller claims to be a boss or a relative — scammers skillfully imitate voices, and any offers to extend communication services should be double-checked with the official offices of the operators.
