How to protect the garden from fire and the bed from nematodes?
This educational project by State Duma deputy and chairman of the Union of Gardeners of Russia Oleg Valenchuk has been providing relevant information for the leaders of gardening associations for over 10 years. This season, from October to April, 7 such classes took place in Kirov.
This time, representatives from the Department of Supervisory Activities and Preventive Work of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Kirov Region, as well as the Rosselkhoznadzor, attended the meeting at the Primorsky territorial administration with the chairmen of gardening associations. The main goal of the event was to discuss current issues related to safety at dachas, as well as compliance with norms and rules in the field of gardening.
An employee of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Kirov Region shared alarming statistics: dozens of fires occur annually in gardening associations located within the city. The main causes of these fires are faulty electrical wiring and careless handling of fire. In connection with the upcoming May holidays, when dacha owners traditionally open the season, emergency services plan to conduct raids to monitor compliance with fire safety regulations. He also reminded everyone of the importance of following safety measures when burning dry grass and preparing shashlik.
Another important topic of the meeting was the discussion of issues related to the quality of seeds and planting material. An employee of the phytosanitary supervision department reminded participants of the need to be extremely cautious when purchasing seeds. He warned that low prices and enticing discounts offered by some sellers on marketplaces may conceal low-quality or unsuitable planting material for the local climate. In some cases, even beautifully packaged seeds may turn out to be completely different from those depicted on the package. The specialist also noted that the Kirov region is an unfavorable area for the spread of golden potato nematodes. To avoid unpleasant consequences, gardeners are advised to follow crop rotation and periodically change their planting material.
The School of Chairmen of Gardening Associations, as emphasized by Oleg Valenchuk, is an important educational project that allows leaders of gardening associations to receive relevant information and knowledge necessary for successful operation.
- Each class is dedicated to the most pressing issues concerning the regulation of gardening association activities, which makes this project not only useful but also extremely important for the development of gardening in the region, - noted Valenchuk.
