Most Russians believe in the "dark side of the Moon."
According to the study, 51% of respondents are aware that there is no sound in space. At the same time, 71% are confident in the existence of the "dark side" of the Moon, and 79% believe that it is very cold in space. Additionally, 84% think that in zero gravity, all objects "just float."
Despite the prevalence of myths, interest in the topic of space remains high. Thus, 38% of Russians would like to learn more about life on other planets, 35% about the exploration of the Universe, and 31% about flights beyond Earth.
The main symbol of the space age for Russians remains Yuri Gagarin — he was named by 87% of survey participants. Other significant figures include Sergei Korolev and Valentina Tereshkova.
In the cultural sphere, Russians most often recall films such as Guest from the Future (6+), The Mystery of the Third Planet (0+), and Kin-dza-dza (16+). Among book preferences are The War of the Worlds (16+), The Martian Chronicles (16+), and Solaris (12+).
The study also showed that men are generally more interested in space than women, and among age groups, the highest engagement is demonstrated by people over 45 years old.
