The Legislative Assembly Committee supported the new holiday of Sokolov.

Recently, Governor Alexander Sokolov proposed to establish a Day of Children's Associations in the Kirov Region and celebrate it on May 19. A corresponding bill has been submitted for consideration to the Legislative Assembly.

At the meeting of the Legislative Assembly committee, deputies discussed the initiative. The Ministry of Education reported that there is a similar holiday in Russia — the Day of Children's Public Associations, but despite this, a regional holiday is also needed to bring joy to children, congratulate them, and contribute to their upbringing.

Deputy Albert Bikaluk expressed the opinion that the authorities should focus on the economy rather than inventing holidays, of which there are already more than enough. And if a holiday is to be introduced, then some support measures for children should be implemented alongside it — for example, free transportation. "We can't even provide proper meals or ensure free transportation," the deputy believes.

During the discussion, there was also an opinion that the holiday is intended to help children think for themselves and not be influenced by the internet, especially by the narratives propagated by other countries. However, no one present explained how a single day would help achieve this.

Ultimately, the bill was supported. The final decision will be made at the plenary session of the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
