May holidays have "shrunk": Russians are facing the shortest weekends in 8 years.
In 2026, the May holidays will be the shortest in the last eight years. This was reported by State Duma deputy Ekaterina Stenyakina. According to her, this situation is the result of the formation of the production calendar. The main reason is the long New Year holidays: this year, Russians had a record 12 days off — from December 31, 2025, to January 11, 2026, as reported in the Russian newspaper. As a result, in 2026, the non-working days will be:
May 1–3 (Friday to Sunday)
May 9–11 (Saturday to Monday)
At the same time, the dates themselves — Spring and Labor Day and Victory Day — remain fixed, while the duration of the holidays depends on the transfer of weekends.
When to expect the next long weekends
Those who are counting on a longer break will have to wait until summer: the nearest long weekends are expected in June — from the 12th to the 14th.
