The State Duma proposed to limit the markup on essential goods.
Deputies of the State Duma have proposed to limit the trade markup on essential goods to 10% of the manufacturer's selling price. Amendments to the law "On Trade" have already been submitted for consideration by the State Duma. According to the leader of the "Fair Russia" faction, Sergey Mironov, the bill will help curb the rise in retail prices, reduce the risks of unjustified markup increases, and make products more accessible for low-income citizens. Furthermore, the bill provides support for local producers: stores must have at least 10% of goods from regional agricultural processors in their assortment. As noted by parliamentarians, food prices are rising faster than inflation, and existing regulatory mechanisms are proving insufficient. According to Mironov, the creation of a federal body to control prices could regulate the market and combat sharp increases in food prices. Similar initiatives have previously been discussed in the State Duma, but the bills were rejected. The new project aims to establish strict rules for retail chains and support the accessibility of products for the population.
