The Kirov region has become one of the leaders in forest restoration.
Today, March 21, on Forest Day, the Minister of Forestry of the Kirov Region, Andrey Teterin, announced that the forest restoration plan will be 100% fulfilled by 2025. In addition, seeds have been harvested in excess — 3.9 tons compared to the planned 1.9 tons.
In 2026, the region plans to restore nearly 40,000 hectares of forest — more than 3,000 hectares more than the previous year.
As the minister noted, a significant portion of the forests is being restored naturally. In 2025, 32,500 hectares were restored in this way. Artificial plantings are used where natural regeneration is impossible — last year, seedlings were planted over an area of 3,600 hectares.
Forest restoration is carried out by specialists from "Lesookhrana" and more than 600 tenants of forest plots. Control is conducted both from the ground and from the air — drones and satellites are used.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Kirov Region emphasized that the process of forest restoration takes decades, so work is being done with a long-term perspective to preserve natural resources for future generations.
