Kirov residents gave 17.6 million rubles to scammers in a week.

Kirov residents gave 17.6 million rubles to scammers in a week.

According to the regional prosecutor's office, since the beginning of this year, 898 residents of the region have fallen victim to crimes involving information and communication technologies. The total amount of damage has reached 209.3 million rubles.

Most often, the criminals posed as employees of law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor's office, the FSB, as well as specialists from the "Gosuslugi" portal. Under various pretexts, including "extending the communication contract," they tricked citizens into giving away personal data and money.

In addition, criminals actively use artificial intelligence technologies to impersonate the voices of victims in order to mislead their relatives.

To protect citizens' rights, the prosecutor's office has filed 384 lawsuits in courts to recover funds from so-called "droppers," as well as 18 lawsuits to declare credit agreements invalid. Just in the last week, 36 such applications have been submitted.

The supervisory agency urges residents to be vigilant and not to transfer money or personal data to strangers under any circumstances.
