The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds drivers and pedestrians of the need to comply with the rules for using pedestrian crossings. In the first working week of the year, an increase in the number of collisions with pedestrians was recorded in the Kirov region, including at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings. On January 14 and 15, five such road traffic accidents were recorded in the region.
The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Kirov region notes that, according to paragraph 14.1 of the Traffic Rules, a driver approaching an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing must yield to pedestrians who are crossing the carriageway or have already stepped onto it to cross. At the same time, according to paragraph 4.5 of the Traffic Rules, pedestrians should step onto the roadway only after assessing the distance to approaching vehicles, their speed, and being confident that it is safe to cross.
According to the department, on January 15 at 6:20 at 30 Mendeleeva Street in Kirov, a 68-year-old man behind the wheel of a Ford Focus struck a 65-year-old man. As a result, the pedestrian sustained injuries. On the same day, January 15, at 8:05 at 49/2 Luganskaya Street in Kirov, a 19-year-old man, the driver of a Datsun, struck a 33-year-old man. As a result, the pedestrian was injured. The next incident occurred at 10:40 at house 139 on Oktyabrsky Prospekt in Kirov. A 67-year-old man driving a Lada Granta hit a 31-year-old woman. As a result of the accident she was injured. At 12:14 at 5 Chapaeva Street in Kirov, a 59-year-old driver of a Renault struck an 80-year-old woman. As a result of the crash, the pedestrian sustained injuries.
