Russian Post has deployed liquefied-gas trucks on its routes.

Russian Post continues to transition its freight road transport to alternative fuels. The company has put into service 11 new truck combinations with KAMAZ tractor units running on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The 16-meter semi-trailers, developed by SibEvroVan and Grunwald, are designed to carry about 110 cubic meters of cargo — roughly 40 standard Euro pallets. All new vehicles are equipped with LNG fuel systems.

According to the company, using liquefied natural gas reduces vehicle operating and maintenance costs and cuts harmful emissions into the atmosphere. In particular, the exhaust gases of such vehicles contain virtually no soot, and carbon dioxide emissions are roughly 20% lower compared with conventional fuels.

The new road trains are already operating on key interregional routes: Moscow — Kazan — Moscow and Moscow — Yekaterinburg — Tyumen — Yekaterinburg — Moscow.

In addition, Russian Post notes that besides LNG the company actively uses compressed natural gas (CNG). Currently, the operator’s fleet includes about 200 heavy-duty KAMAZ trucks and more than 300 light vehicles, mainly Lada Largus, running on CNG and serving delivery routes in the country’s major cities.
