Almost half of Kirov residents continue to work even when they are ill.

Nearly every other employed resident of Kirov went to work despite being ill over the past year. As the survey showed, women do this more often — 52% of female respondents reported working while unwell, compared with 44% of men.

In addition, city residents with higher education are more likely to go to work sick. Among Kirov residents with secondary vocational education this figure is lower. Income level also plays a significant role: among those earning up to 80,000 rubles per month, 58% reported working while sick, whereas among those whose income exceeds 150,000 rubles it was only 38%.

The maximum sick-leave payment in 2026 amounts to 6,827 rubles per day. At the same time, most employers do not compensate employees for lost income: 73% of companies do not top up payments beyond the government-set amount. Only in 5% of organizations is sick leave paid up to the average earnings, in 3% up to the salary, and in 2% up to the actual pay. Another 1% of employers pay a fixed sum, and in 2% of cases the decision is made individually.

According to HR specialists, the abandonment of financial incentives is linked to a shift toward more flexible forms of employment. In particular, employees are increasingly offered the option to work from home, which allows them to maintain their income without taking sick leave.
