A woman in the Nemsky District lost 45,000 rubles after opening a "video" in a messenger.
A 33-year-old resident of Nemsky District went to the police after she began receiving notices demanding repayment of microloans she had not taken out.
The victim said that about a month ago she received a file titled "Video" from an acquaintance in one of the messengers. The woman tried to open the attachment, but the clip did not play, and she paid it no attention.
Later it emerged that microloans had been taken out in her name at four microfinance organizations totaling 45,000 rubles. During the inquiry, police established that the account of the acquaintance who sent the message had been hacked. Disguised as a video, an installation file for an app was sent to the woman.
After downloading it, the perpetrator gained the ability to remotely control the victim's smartphone, logged into her account on the Gosuslugi portal and, using her personal data, took out loans online. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident.
The MVD of Russia for the Kirov Region reminds people not to open attachments with the .apk extension, even if they come from acquaintances. Such files can give fraudsters access to personal data, banking apps and the Gosuslugi service. Owners of smartphones running the Android operating system are advised to enable the block on installing apps from unknown sources.
