Kirov doctors operated for the second time on twin sisters with a rare hand deformity.
The girls first came to the Center for Traumatology, Orthopedics and Neurosurgery in July last year, when they were 11. At that time the specialists successfully corrected deformities of their left forearms. This year the patients returned to Kirov — this time for surgery on their right arms.
According to their attending physician Anna Nekrasova, the girls underwent a corrective osteotomy of the right radius and had external fixator frames with pins installed, which will allow the wrists to be gradually brought into the correct position. After the operation the patients will undergo rehabilitation, including therapeutic exercise, physiotherapy procedures and hand therapy.
The young patients spent about five weeks in the clinic, meanwhile continuing their studies remotely. According to the girls’ mother, despite the complexity of the treatment, the operation was carried out in time — recovery is easier in adolescence. The sisters are now 13, and if rehabilitation goes well they plan to return to normal school life as early as spring.
