A Kirov resident paid his child-support debt only after his garage was seized.

      A 40-year-old resident of the Novovyatsky District of Kirov had for years ignored his obligations to support his minor son and accumulated alimony arrears of more than 260,000 rubles. He ignored the bailiffs’ demands, and prosecution under Art. 5.35.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation and assignment of 50 hours of compulsory work had no effect — payments still did not begin.

      The situation changed only after the bailiffs discovered that the debtor owned a garage and seized the property. He was informed that the asset could be sold to repay the debt. Faced with the threat of losing his property, the man reconsidered his position and fully paid the arrears together with the enforcement fee.
