Residents of the building on Krasina Street lived with a hole in the roof, and after the repairs they began to suffocate.
Residents of building No. 8 on Krasina Street in Kirov appealed to the President of Russia's direct line because of the consequences of repairs carried out by the management company after a tree fell on the building.
In the summer, during strong winds, a poplar fell onto the building, breaking through the roof and destroying the chimneys. According to the People's Front, the management company did not remove the fallen tree for more than a week, and the removal of the incident's consequences dragged on until the end of the summer. After activists appealed to the prosecutor's office, a court ordered the management company to repair the roof and chimneys.
The work was carried out, but the residents had questions about its quality. According to the People's Front, the damaged sections of the roof were covered with polycarbonate, which causes snow to accumulate in the attic and allows rainwater to enter the apartments. In one of them the ceilings have yellowed, and in the stairwell the plaster has sagged and may collapse.
The chimneys are a particular concern. The building is heated by stoves, but after the repair the draft disappeared and the stoves began to smoke heavily. According to residents, second-hand materials and asbestos pipes were used in the restoration of the chimneys. Smoke began to enter the apartments, forcing people to heat the stoves and open windows at the same time.
Fearing for their safety, 74-year-old resident Tatyana Poluektova, together with her husband, a first-group disabled person, moved in with their children. Previously the woman would come home to heat the apartment, but now she fears a possible fire.
The People's Front has become involved in the issue again. According to the organization's expert Dmitry Sergeev, polycarbonate is not intended for roof repairs because it is not UV-stable and has a short service life. The activists have sent appeals to the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the prosecutor's office.
