A man, dead drunk, lit a barbecue and burned down outbuildings and their contents worth 400 thousand.
The Kotelnich Interdistrict Court has handed down a verdict against a 43-year-old local resident. He was found guilty of destroying and damaging another’s property through negligence (Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the Kirov Region Prosecutor’s Office reports.
According to the agency, on the night of June 6–7, 2025, the man was heavily intoxicated and violated fire safety rules while tending a barbecue near the outbuildings of house No. 41 on Chapaev Street. The fire quickly spread to the structures and ignited materials stored there.
The fire destroyed and damaged three motor scooters, a boat, an outboard motor, electrical and construction tools, and car parts. The total damage amounted to nearly 400,000 rubles. The defendant fully admitted his guilt.
The court agreed with the prosecution’s arguments and sentenced the man to 200 hours of mandatory community service. The victims retain the right to seek compensation for material damage in civil proceedings.
