Rosstandart denied reports that requirements for chocolate candies had been lowered.
Rosstandart has not adopted any new GOSTs for chocolate candies and is not considering projects that could change the product requirements. This was stated by the agency, refuting media reports that producers would allegedly be allowed to reduce the cocoa content to nine percent, Lenta.ru writes.
Earlier, the press reported that industry sources had confirmed the preparation of amendments to the standard under which products with a minimal cocoa-products content could be called chocolate. These reports provoked widespread public resonance and consumer concern.
Rosstandart emphasized that GOST R 53041-2008 "Confectionery products and semi-finished products of confectionery production. Terms and definitions" is in force in Russia. No changes have been made to the document, and no work on its revision is officially being carried out.
