"Data digitization" cost a woman from Kirov 1.3 million rubles.

According to the police, a woman working at one of Kirov’s hospitals received a message in a messaging app about the “digitization of the institution’s personnel records” and an invitation to join a staff chat. The Kirov resident clicked the link and followed the requested actions. After that, she was contacted by alleged “employees of Roskomnadzor,” the “prosecutor’s office” and the “federal treasury.” They convinced the woman that her data had been stolen and that fraudsters had allegedly gained access to her Gosuslugi account and could take out loans in her name. The perpetrators also frightened the victim by claiming that the money could be transferred to finance Ukraine and that she herself could face criminal liability. To “protect the funds,” the Kirov resident was told to transfer all her money to a “single tax account.” Following the instructions, she sent 1.3 million rubles to the provided account details. After the transfer, the “agency employees” stopped responding and the correspondence was deleted. A criminal case has been opened on the fraud, and an investigation is underway.
