The new physics and mathematics lyceum on Stroiteley Avenue is ready to accept students.

The contractor, LLC SK "Monolit," invested its own funds (around 600 million rubles) to complete the work and hand the building over to the region. In early October the school obtained its license, and the ceremonial opening with the participation of Governor Alexander Sokolov took place the day before.

As the company notes, the project became one of the largest and most complex in their portfolio. The school consists of two blocks: an academic building and a sports and fitness complex (FOK). The academic building covers more than 10,000 sq. m. It has four above-ground floors and a basement. The new school places emphasis on functionality, convenience and the speed of movement between rooms for students. The FOK covers over 5,000 sq. m. The complex adjoins the academic building. It houses a library, sports halls and a swimming pool.

The building meets modern accessibility standards, which will allow children with disabilities to study here comfortably. The school is designed to admit one thousand students by the second term.

But the road to that readiness was not easy. Construction took place on the site of the former ambulance station — one of the most awkward plots, and also on the outskirts of the city. The decision to allocate it for an educational facility was made without broad public discussion, and even then raised questions: was the site suitable for a public building? Surely children deserve better?

Legal subtleties added to the difficulties. A Lukoil gas station was located next to the school's grounds, which meant regional authorities were long unable to resolve the land dispute and determine the plot boundaries. These approvals stretched the timeline and likely became one of the reasons the handover of the facility was delayed.

Nevertheless, in the end Monolit agreed to take on the financial burden and complete the project at its own expense — a step rare for contractors of that level. Formally the school was built as a symbol of educational development; in practice it became a test of the region's and contractors' ability to reach agreements even in the most difficult conditions.

Now it remains to be seen how well this symbol will withstand the test of time — and whether the handsome building on the site of the old ambulance station will turn out to be not only a contribution to education but also a monument to bureaucratic delay.
