The Sun experienced the most powerful flare in recent months: scientists predict a rise in activity.
On the morning of November 3 the geomagnetic situation remained calm, but by midday it had changed — a powerful M5.0 flare was recorded on the Sun, the strongest since the end of September. According to scientists, the event began around noon Moscow time, and the peak of the emission occurred at 13:11. A large coronal mass ejection is now forming, but its exact direction is not yet known. Specialists note that the active region on the Sun is not yet pointed directly at Earth, so most of the plasma will likely pass by our planet. Researchers say the flare is part of a period of increasing solar activity that has begun. Since the second half of October scientists have been tracking the approach of two large active regions that were previously on the far side of the star. Both regions have now fully come into view on the solar disk and continue to build up energy. According to specialists' observations, flare activity will increase in the coming days, with the peak impact on Earth expected in the middle and at the end of next week.
